FTC ‘Click-to-Cancel’ Rule Overstepped Authority, Industry Says

The Federal Trade Commission’s “click-to-cancel” rule to help consumers easily end subscriptions is overly broad and ambiguous, a collection of trade groups told the Eighth Circuit.

A rule that “targets over a billion commonplace contracts used by 220 million American consumers and businesses in every industry from newspapers to health care” violates the commission’s specificity requirements for new rules, the trade groups told the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in a brief filed Wednesday.
