Fox’s Outgoing Top Lawyer Saw Total Pay Dip During 2023

Sept. 22, 2023, 10:05 PM UTC

Fox Corp.’s chief legal and policy officer Viet Dinh earned more than $10.7 million in total compensation in 2023, down 4% from his pay the year prior.

A proxy statement filed late Friday by Fox, which also disclosed that the media giant’s billionaire chairman K. Rupert Murdoch will step down, makes no mention of the $787 million defamation settlement that the news giant reached earlier this year with Dominion Voting Systems Inc.

Fox announced last month that as of Dec. 31 Dinh will receive a $23 million lump-sum payment to transition to a special advisory role that will also pay him $2.5 million per year for two years. Fox spokesman Brian Nick said in an email Friday the process to find a successor to Dinh “is underway but not complete.”

Dinh received $3 million in base salary from Fox, roughly $2.2 million in non-equity incentive plan compensation, and more than $5.4 million in stock and option awards, per the proxy. His previous pay packages were valued at almost $11.2 million in 2022 and $12.4 million in 2021.

During his five years as the top lawyer at Fox, Dinh became one of the company’s most powerful executives. He is reportedly the godfather to one of Fox’s CEO and executive chairman Lachlan Murdoch’s children.
