President Joe Biden has selected former Sidley Austin partner Christopher Fonzone to lead the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel.
Fonzone, whose intended nomination was announced Tuesday, would succeed Christopher Schroeder, who departed earlier this summer.
The Office of Legal Counsel provides advice to the president and executive branch agencies, while drafting legal opinions for the attorney general.
Fonzone currently serves as the general counsel of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. He held posts in the General Counsel’s office at the Defense Department and at both OLC and the Justice Department’s Civil Appellate staff.
