An Ohio grand jury indicted the former CEO and an ex-vice president of FirstEnergy Corp., marking the first time anyone from the utility has been criminally charged in a wide-ranging corruption probe.
The indictment, filed in secret Friday in Summit County Common Pleas Court, names ex-CEO Charles Jones and Senior Vice President of External Affairs Michael Dowling as defendants. Both were fired from the Akron-based utility in the wake of a related federal probe that became public in 2020.
