Christopher Fonzone was confirmed to run the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, where the veteran national security lawyer will be the point person for thorny executive branch legal questions.
The current general counsel for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence was confirmed 50-17 on Tuesday with bipartisan support.
Fonzone returns to a Justice Department office where he once worked as an attorney during the Obama administration.
His new responsibilities will include drafting legal opinions for the attorney general and advising the White House and other federal agencies.
