Fluor Stuck with $20 Million Liability in Iranian Asbestos Suit

Fluor Enterprises Inc. and Fluor Middle East must face liability for the claims of an Iranian oil worker who was exposed to asbestos while using pipes they supplied, a California appellate court said Wednesday.

Houshang Sabetian sued Fluor, Exxon Mobile Corp., and Chevron USA Inc. in 2018 for negligence, premises liability, and loss of consortium. He alleged his exposure to asbestos in several Iranian refineries while he was working for the National Iranian Oil Company from 1959 to 1979 led to his mesothelioma.
