Florida Transgender Athlete Ban Violates Title IX, Lawsuit Says

Florida’s ban on transgender athletes playing on girls’ or women’s sports teams violates Title IX by discriminating on the basis of sex and transgender status, a federal lawsuit alleges.

The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on behalf of a 13-year-old transgender girl and her parents in Florida’s Broward County.

Identified in court documents as D.N., the rising eighth-grader plays soccer on the girls’ team at her middle school, and she wants to play on the girls’ team when she starts high school. She also plays on a girls’ travel soccer team ...
