First, Sixth Circuit Nominees Advanced by Senate Panel (1)

The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced two appeals court nominees Thursday amid a shrinking timeline for confirmation.

The committee voted 11-10 to approve Karla Campbell, a labor lawyer at Stranch Jennings & Garvey PLLC, for the Sixth Circuit and 11-10 for Julia Lipez, a Maine state court judge, for the First Circuit.

Ahead of the vote, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) criticized the White House for nominating Campbell for the Tennessee-based appellate seat over her objections. Blackburn said this is the fourth time the White House has “disregarded Sen. Hagerty and I in this process.”
