Patricia Guerrero was confirmed Friday as California Supreme Court chief justice, becoming the first Latina to hold the position on the state’s high court.
The Commission on Judicial Appointments unanimously approved Guerrero, who Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) elevated from the Court of Appeals last February. Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, Attorney General Rob Bonta, and senior Presiding Justice of the state Courts of Appeal Manuel A. Ramirez approved the appointment.
