FCC Makes AI-Generated Voices in Robocalls Illegal

The Federal Communications Commission announces the unanimous adoption of a ruling that makes voice cloning technology used in common robocalls targeting consumers illegal.

  • The ruling takes effect immediately, according to statement
  • “Bad actors are using AI-generated voices in unsolicited robocalls to extort vulnerable family members, imitate celebrities, and misinform voters,” says FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel
