The defense contractor turned international fugitive known as “Fat Leonard” was sentenced to 15 years in prison—8.5 years of which he has remaining to serve—for perpetrating the Navy’s largest corruption scandal.
Leonard Glenn Francis was also ordered to pay $20 million in restitution and forfeit $35 million in a San Diego federal courthouse Tuesday.
He pleaded guilty nearly a decade ago to orchestrating an extensive bribery operation in which he paid dozens of Naval officers in lavish parties, prostitutes, and other gifts in exchange for overcharging the military for servicing the Seventh Fleet.
