Experian Beats Claims It Failed to Catch Credit Report Error

Experian Information Solutions Inc. didn’t violate the Fair Credit Reporting Act by failing to remove an erroneous report of a bankruptcy from a man’s credit report, the Sixth Circuit ruled Friday.

“Given the sheer amount of data” maintained by credit reporting agencies, consumers are in a better position to detect errors in their credit reports, the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit said in an opinion written by Judge R. Guy Cole Jr.

It wasn’t unreasonable for Experian to rely on data from LexisNexis, which “has long been thought to provide credit reporting companies with accurate, reliable information,” ...
