Expelled Student Accused of Cheating Can Sue for Defamation

An expelled premed student who alleged her organic chemistry professor fabricated a test-cheating story after she rebuffed his advances can sue him for defamation, the Sixth Circuit said.

But the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit affirmed dismissal of Prianka Bose’s Title IX claims against Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.

Rhodes expelled Bose following school honor council proceedings spurred by Roberto de la Salud Bea’s accusations that she cheated on tests and quizzes, the court said.
