A Muslim man convicted of killing a teenage girl in a cotton field wants a spiritual adviser of his faith with him in the Alabama execution chamber. State officials said no.

He got temporarily relief, however, Wednesday as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit agreed to stay Thursday’s scheduled execution while the court takes a closer look at his claim.
