Former top GOP Justice Department officials urged the Supreme Court today to reject a government request to reinstate Donald Trump’s asylum ban, promoting judicial independence in the case that prompted the president’s politically charged tweet about courtroom bias and “Obama judges.”
The group, including two acting attorneys general and an FBI director, told the justices that the ban— currently on hold amid legal wrangling—runs counter to the plain language of the nation’s immigration laws.
