Estate of Inmate Who Died in Jail Mostly Wins $10 Million Appeal

Two Oklahoma sheriffs who lost a $10 million case against the estate of an inmate who died in custody saw their appeal largely rejected Aug. 20.

Elliott Earl Williams was arrested in 2011 and booked into the Tulsa County Jail. While alone in his holding cell, Williams hit his head and became partially paralyzed. The officers didn’t take him to the medical unit until more than ten hours later. The nurses there didn’t provide him any medical treatment, and at least one said he was faking.
