The Environmental Protection Agency will review the potential harm a new fungicide poses to several endangered species, under a the Ninth Circuit order Monday, after environmentalists had sued the agency to stop fungicide’s use.
The EPA approved the use of inpyrfluxam on crops like corn, soy, grains, beans, sugar beets, apples, and peanuts in 2020. The approval came despite new studies that show the pesticide is likely “very highly toxic” to endangered salmon and steelhead fish, and other endangered animals like whooping cranes, according to the Center for Biological Diversity.
