Business leaders are getting an education from Duolingo Inc. on what can happen when companies talk about replacing human labor with artificial intelligence.

Last week, the popular language-learning app declared it will “fundamentally change” its approach to work and management, factoring people’s use of AI into hiring decisions and performance reviews and gradually phasing out contractors as the technology takes on more tasks.

The brand’s main TikTok account lost over 300,000 followers and its Apple app store listing was flooded with one-star reviews after the announcement.
