The Justice Department disseminated new procedures for investigating members of Congress and their staff—issuing new requirements to prosecutors at a time when such politically-sensitive cases are under extra scrutiny.
The department’s No. 2 official instructed all federal prosecutors that they must gain approval from or consult with career attorneys at DOJ’s public integrity section before taking a series of steps in investigations involving lawmakers and Capitol Hill staffers, according to a memo posted on DOJ’s website on Wednesday.
