Two Tennessee lawyer groups violated federal disability bias law by denying a man his law license and forcing him to pay thousands of dollars to be tested over his use of medication for opioid use disorder, the Justice Department said.
The groups—the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners and the Tennessee Lawyers Assistance Program—must implement corrective measures, including no longer “prohibiting, limiting, or restricting” bar applicants or attorneys from taking medications for treatment of substance use disorder, the DOJ said.
