Senators pressed President Donald Trump’s nominee for Deputy Attorney General, Todd Blanche, on politicization of the Justice Department and recent efforts to gather names of FBI agents who worked on cases related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

The questioning came during the Senate Judiciary Committee’s confirmation hearings for two of Trump’s picks to help reshape the Justice Department and amid controversy over whether the agency is purging personnel for political reasons and compromising its independence.
