The suspension of two Justice Department lawyers amid a high-profile deportation case illustrates the position government attorneys can find themselves in while facing the dual demands of loyalty to the Trump administration and candor to the court.

The move came after DOJ attorney Erez Reuveni told a Maryland federal judge during an April 4 hearing that Kilmar Abrego Garcia was wrongfully deported and he’d yet to be given a “satisfactory” answer from his “clients” on why he couldn’t be returned to the US.
