The Justice Department said it mistakenly sent to news media a draft version of its superseding indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center before the court made the final charging publicly available.
News media members “erroneously received the draft document” from DOJ’s press office on June 2, hours after a grand jury returned an updated charging document against the SPLC, the Montgomery US attorney’s office wrote in a brief filed Monday in the US District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.
