Detainees’ Forced Labor Class Claims Against CoreCivic Proceed

Detainees held at for-profit detention facilities run by CoreCivic Inc. solely because of their immigration status may proceed with three class claims alleging they were forced to work for little or no pay in violation of federal and state law, the Ninth Circuit said.

Pursuant to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement regulations, the detainees couldn’t “be required to work, except to do personal housekeeping,” such as making their beds daily.
