An appeals court grilled the federal government on its claim the US Marshals Service can detain people appearing in the city’s local courthouse for suspected immigration violations.
A three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit heard arguments on Thursday in a class action brought by individuals charged in superior court. After being released by a judge, they were detained by the marshals and then turned over to immigration authorities.
