Covington Student Settles Defamation Suit With Washington Post

Attorneys for The Washington Post and a Kentucky high school student settled a defamation suit over coverage of an altercation at a January 2019 March for Life event in Washington, D.C., filing a stipulation of dismissal with prejudice on Friday.

Nick Sandmann, the 16-year-old student in a viral video wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat while facing down a Native American elder at the Lincoln Memorial, sued The Post and other outlets in Kentucky federal court for the way they covered the encounter.

Sandmann sought $250 million in compensatory and punitive damages, alleging The Post’s coverage defamed him. A ...
