Courthouse News Loses Bid for Remote Virginia State Court Access

Courthouse News Service failed to convince the Fourth Circuit that Virginia violates the First Amendment when it declines to allow it to review state civil court records online.

Nonconfidential documents are available to the public at the courthouse for free, with a nominal printing cost. Virginia attorneys can access those files remotely. The US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit said Courthouse News’ inability to remotely access those files is constitutionally fine.
