Court Tosses NYC ‘Elite’ High School Asian Bias Admission Case

Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) and former city education chancellor Richard A. Carranza beat an equal protection case claiming their changes to the admissions process of eight prestigious high schools discriminated against Asian American students, under a New York federal court ruling.

The plaintiffs—organizations and parents of public school students—said the admissions changes, aimed at improving their underrepresentation of Black and Latino students, violated the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment by discriminating against Asian American students.
