Court Imposed Covid-19 Procedures for Miami Jail Stayed

A preliminary injunction issued against Miami-Dade County, imposing numerous safety measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in its jail and containing extensive reporting requirements, was stayed by the Eleventh Circuit.

The jail undertook measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 as soon as possible, the court said. But inmates alleged those measures were insufficient, claiming they still didn’t have enough soap and towels, had to wait days for medical attention, didn’t have enough cleaning supplies, and were forced to sleep two feet apart.

The inmates aren’t likely to win on appeal, the opinion by the court said.
