Couple on the Hook for ‘Reprehensible’ Grandchild Custody Scheme

An Illinois couple who briefly got custody of their granddaughter by having her mother arrested on a pretext—after blackmailing her with nude photos failed—offered no basis for overturning a jury’s conspiracy verdict against them, the Seventh Circuit ruled Nov. 7.

Jade Green’s lawsuit accused her estranged mother and stepfather, Angela and Jack Howser, of effectively enlisting local law enforcement in a conspiracy to kidnap her four-year-old daughter, “E.W.,” after she and her husband moved away from town with the child.
