Corrupt Chicago Cop Denied Early Release Based on Change in Law

A former Chicago police officer convicted of conspiracy to steal money and narcotics from drug dealers lost his appeal Tuesday to be considered for early release based on a change in law made by the First Step Act.

The amendment—which modified the mandatory penalties for certain firearms offenses—isn’t an “extraordinary and compelling” reason for a sentence reduction, even when considered in connection with other circumstances, the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit said.
