Cop Who Used Taser on Man Soaked in Gas Can’t Escape Lawsuit

A California police officer failed to convince a federal court that he acted reasonably when he deployed a Taser on a suspect who had doused himself with gasoline and was holding a lighter.

A jury should consider the suspect’s excessive force lawsuit, because reasonable minds can differ regarding whether city of Weed police officer John Gale ignored the known risk of using a Taser on highly flammable material, Judge Troy L. Nunley said Thursday for the US District Court for the Eastern District of California.
