A Louisiana police officer who arrested a high school student who was photographed with a caricature of himself bearing the caption “Future School Shooter” is immune from suit, a divided Fifth Circuit affirmed Tuesday.
Sergeant Billy Matranga’s actions in arresting the student under the state’s criminal terrorizing law didn’t violate “clearly established” law, the majority of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit said.
Matranga was called to the office of the Grace King High School principal, who showed him photos of Lennon Betancourt and told him someone had posted them on social media.
