Colorado Trial Pick Can Advance After Successful Discharge Vote

A President Joe Biden trial court nominee who would be the first openly LGBT federal judge in Colorado can advance Senate on the floor after a successful vote to move her nomination out from consideration by the Judiciary Committee.

The Democratic-led Senate voted 51-49 Wednesday to discharge Charlotte Sweeney’s nomination to U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.

Sweeney, a employment lawyer representing workers, received support from one Republican, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, in the mostly party-line vote.
