Coke, Pepsi Accused by L.A. County of Greenwashing Plastic (1)

PepsiCo and the Coca-Cola Company allegedly lie about how reusable their plastic bottles are, according to a lawsuit filed against the soft drink makers by Los Angeles County.

The beverage companies are the world’s top plastic polluters, according to a brand audit by the environmental conservation group Break Free From Plastic, the county said. Its lawsuit filed Wednesday in the Los Angeles County Superior Court said for years Pepsi and Coca-Cola promoted recycling as a sustainability strategy, when in truth many plastic materials “cannot be effectively recycled, or if it can, can only be recycled once.”
