A bipartisan coalition of states threw their support behind objectors to a biometric privacy settlement that would give class members an equity stake in facial recognition company Clearview AI Inc., according to a filing in a federal appeals court.
The lack of injunctive relief stopping Clearview from using class members’ biometric information for its business renders the deal inherently unfair, the states said. In the absence of an injunction, the settlement should at least require Clearview to implement an universal opt-out mechanism for the nationwide class, they said.
