City Worker Fired for Racist Online Post Loses Free Speech Claim

A Nashville, Tenn., municipal employee’s free speech rights weren’t violated when she was fired for posting racial slurs on her Facebook page following Donald Trump’s 2016 victory, the Sixth Circuit ruled Tuesday.

Danyelle Bennett was terminated from her position at the Emergency Communications Center of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee for posting comments about the racial composition of the electorate.

The ECC acts as a link between the citizens and the emergency responders by providing emergency and non-emergency services including police, fire, and rescue.
