Health-care providers are asking a federal court to permanently block the government from forcing them to provide medical treatments that, they say, violate their religious beliefs, as there’s a danger policies requiring them to do so could be resurrected.
Only a permanent injunction can remove the “Damoclean sword” that dangles over the heads of providers like Franciscan Alliance Inc., a Catholic hospital association that sued the Health and Human Services Department to invalidate a 2016 rule.
