Chief Justice John Roberts used his end-of-year report to talk about the benefits and potential risks, of artificial intelligence while making no reference to the Supreme Court’s alleged ethics violations, blockbuster decisions, and historic public distrust.
“I predict that human judges will be around for a while,” Roberts said in the report released Sunday. “But with equal confidence I predict that judicial work—particularly at the trial level—will be significantly affected by AI.”
The approach largely follows Roberts’s and the court’s response to criticism of the institution and its members—that is, to ignore or downplay their importance.
