Chevron-Foe Donziger’s Appeal Over Contempt Charges Denied

The US Supreme Court declined to take up an appeal from disbarred environmental lawyer Steven Donziger, who for decades has waged a legal war with Chevron Corp. over alleged contamination of the Amazon rain forest.

The petition denied Monday turned on the prosecution of Donziger for contempt by private attorneys appointed by the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. They pursued a criminal case against him after the Justice Department refused to do so. Southern District prosecutors said they didn’t have the resources to pursue the matter.
