Two years after the US government agreed to spend billions of dollars to compensate Marines, their families, and others sickened by toxic waters at Camp Lejeune, the Navy has offered voluntary settlements to just 114 people— and only 72 have accepted.

This Saturday marks the deadline to file a compensation claim with the Navy. More than 385,000 had been filed as of Aug. 2, and the government is bracing for what could be a last-minute surge.
