Cambodians Lose U.S. Suit Over Forced Labor in Thai Shrimp Plant

Cambodian villagers who were enticed to work in shrimp factories in Thailand with promises of good wages and living conditions, only to find out the promises were a mirage, failed to state a claim for damages under the U.S. law against human trafficking, the Ninth Circuit said Friday.

The villagers sued Phatthana Seafood Co., S.S. Frozen Food Co., Rubicon Resources LLC, and Wales & Co. Universe Ltd. under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

Phatthana and S.S. Frozen are Thai companies that have no connection to the U.S. but own the factories where the villagers worked.
