California Retaliation Law Violates Free Speech, Suit Says (1)

A California law that protects employees from retaliation for refusing to attend work meetings about political and religious matters allegedly violates employers’ First Amendment rights.

The California Policy Center Inc. alleges the law has impeded its ability to hold regular meetings to discuss legislation and regulations, which are “the very subject matter” of its mission. The public policy think tank filed a complaint Tuesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California against Labor Commissioner Lilia Garcia-Brower.
