California Reforms How State Bar Is Governed

Legislation that reforms how the California State Bar is governed was signed by Gov. Jerry Brown (D) Oct. 2.

Senate Bill 163, Chapter 417, creates a 19-member board of trustees in place of the current 23-member board of governors, and changes the board’s composition.

The new board of trustees will include six public and 13 attorney members. The bar’s current board of governors includes six public members, 15 attorney members, and the president of the state bar.
