California Democrats Tee Up Special Election on US House Map (1)

Californians will vote Nov. 4 on a new congressional map that would potentially allow Democrats to pick up five GOP-held House seats next year after the state legislature cleared a redistricting package.

Democratic lawmakers cast the special election as a last-ditch effort to offset redistricting in Texas backed by President Donald Trump in a bid to bolster his Republican Party’s chances of maintaining House control in 2026. The Texas legislature is poised to clear its revised map that could add as many as five Republican seats in the midterm elections to the Lone Star State.
