Businessman Facing Taliban Persecution For Aiding US Gets Asylum

A Pakistani native who sold supplies to US and coalition forces during the war in Afghanistan should get asylum because deportation would put him at risk of persecution from the Taliban, the Fourth Circuit said.

The Board of Immigration Appeals previously denied Shaker Ullah’s petition for asylum. It concluded that though the Taliban had previously threatened Ullah, blew up his business’s oil tanker, and shot at him, there was no indication that the terrorist group was continuing to look for him, and that he might be able to relocate safely to other parts of Pakistan.
