Burning Man Organizers Sue Feds Over Millions in Permit Costs

The operators of Nevada’s annual Burning Man event have sued the federal government, challenging millions of dollars in annual permit costs imposed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Black Rock City LLC alleges that it paid a total of more than $18 million for BLM’s costs of administering the annual event between 2015 and 2018.

BRC also paid over $2.9 million to BLM as an estimate for the cost of the 2019 event, much of which was “unsupported by any reasoned explanation,” the complaint alleges.
