Black Student’s Bias Suit Over His Two-Toned Blond Hair Revived

A Black high school student in Louisiana who alleges he was disciplined for his two-toned blond hair only because of his race and gender convinced the Fifth Circuit Thursday to partly reinstate his civil rights suit.

Jaylon Sewell adequately alleges that his suspension may have stemmed from a discriminatory view that Black males shouldn’t wear such a hair color, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit said. It reinstated harassment claims against the Monroe City School Board under Titles VI and IX of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
