Bill Targets Nationwide Injunctions, Used to Thwart Trump Agenda

Nationwide injunctions, where a federal judge can stop a federal policy across the country, would be curtailed in a bill introduced Sept. 10 by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.).

The injunctions have been used to put the brakes on President Barack Obama’s immigration policies and President Donald Trump’s travel ban and sanctuary cities policy.

The constitutionality of the practice has recently been questioned by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and come under fire from U.S. Attorney Jeff Sessions.
