A bipartisan bill strengthening security permanently for U.S. Supreme Court justices when they travel domestically or overseas is on its way to President Donald Trump’s desk for his signature.
The Senate gave final congressional approval on Nov. 19 to H.R. 4258. In addition to boosting Supreme Court Police authority, the measure eliminates a sunset provision that required Congress to re-up the policy that periodically expires. The current authorization expires Dec. 29.
Temporary reauthorization caused gaps in security, said Senate sponsors Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.).
Trump is expected to sign the non-controversial measure.
